(Amherst) - The Chief of Police iin Amherst has suddenly retired, during an investigation into morale in the police department.
Amherst Chief of Police Joseph Kucirek handed in his resignation Monday, effective immediately. in it, the chief said to the mayor, "You decided earlier this year that you wanted to remove me as chief, and then you initiated an investigation to justify your decision."
The Chronicle-Telegram reports that there has been an 11-week investigation into morale in the Amherst Police Department, because so many officers were leaving the department. One report quoted employees as saying the Amherst Police Department was "hostile," "toxic," and "military style."
