FirstEnergy Advising Customers To Change Passwords

(Akron) - If you try to pay your FirstEnergy bill online, and the website says it can't accept your password, here's the reason why.

On Sunday, FirstEnergy got word that there had been numerous attempts to try to get into customer accounts, and a handful of them were actually cracked into. So, 6 million FirstEnergy customers are being told to change their passwords.

FirstEnergy has no evidence your information was misused, but they want you to stay vigilant,.

To change your password, follow these steps.

  • On the FirstEnergy website, click "Log In"
  • Input your current Username and password, and click "Log In" you will automatically be redirected to the "Account Locked" page
  • Enter the Username and email address for your account, and you will receive an email with a link to reset your password
  • At the bottom of the email, click the link to reset your password, and you will be taken to the "Reset Password" page and asked to create a new password.
