5/21/21 MVA/Damage
At approximately 9:30 AM a caller reported a two car MVA on Gasser Blvd. While speaking with witnesses and the driver of one of the vehicles, it was determined that the driver of a Ford F-150 looked away to retrieve an item in her purse when she struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle on the street. There were no injuries, and the driver was cited for Full Time and Attention and assigned a court date at the RRMC.
05/22/2021 Theft
RRPD took a report from loss prevention at the Giant Eagle on Center Ridge Rd. regarding thefts that had occurred on 05/16/2021 and 05/20/2021. Loss prevention was able to view video surveillance of the thefts and identify the suspect as a woman who had previously been trespassed from the store for theft offenses in both Rocky River and Westlake. On both of the incidents reported, the suspect uses her two children, ages 9 and 11, to assist with the thefts from the store. A total of approximately $237 in merchandise was taken. The suspect was charged with Theft, Criminal Tools, Complicity and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. She will have a later court date at the Rocky River Municipal Court.
05/24/2021 Fraud
A Linden Rd. resident came into the RRPD to report that he had been the victim of a fraud. The man reported that on 05/07/2021 he received a call from two men claiming to be from Amazon security who told him that a person unknown had accessed his personal Amazon account and had tried to charge $900.00 to it. The men purporting to be from Amazon worked with the victim to set up an online account and attached his bank account to it as they had convinced him that he needed to move some of his money to a safer location. A total of $124,322.00 had been removed from the victim's accounts before he realized he had been the victim of a fraud. The Detective Bureau and the Fraud department at the bank are currently investigating.
05/30/2021 Neighbor Trouble
A resident on Beachcliff Blvd. reported that while he was out doing yardwork his neighbor threatened him with physical harm. The victim had previously reported other problems with the neighbor. The suspect was charged with menacing through the Rock River Municipal Court.
05/31/2021 Burglary
An Addington Blvd. resident reported that she found her sliding glass patio door opened when she woke up and her purse, which contained her car keys and mobile phone, was missing. The victim was able to track her phone and reported that it was in Richmond Hts. Richmond Hts. PD was able to stop the vehicle that the phone suspected to be in, apprehending the burglary suspect, who was subsequently arrested and returned to RRPD where he was charged with Aggravated Burglary and Receiving Stolen Property and booked into jail.
05/31/2021 Aggravated Burglary
While Officers were investigating a Burglary on Addington Blvd. they located another residence that had a damaged screen on one of its windows. Further investigation revealed that several screens had been tampered with and removed in what appeared to be an attempted entry into the residence. Officers determined that this was related to the previous burglary and the detective bureau is investigating. Charges are pending.
