(Cleveland) - The City of Cleveland is hoping that action taken Monday by City Council could encourage more women to join the city's Division of Fire. Cleveland City Council voted to approve spending as much as $830,000 to renovate fire stations to provide sleeping, showering, and bathroom facilities for women.
The city has come up with design solutions for all fire stations. As a pilot project, Fire Station 11 already has been outfittd with walls and doors to convert the sleeping area into individual rooms.
The renovation project begins this year, and continues until 2025
Currently, the Division of Fire employs only three women. It is hoped that renovating the fire stations will make more women want to apply for jobs.
