WESTLAKE, OH - On 3/19/21 at about 5:45PM offices responded to a report of a TPO violation at Crocker Park. The complainant, a Westlake female, was approached in a parking lot by a male against whom she had an active temporary protection order. The suspect left the area before officers arrived A report was taken at the time. On 3/20/21 at approx. 10:15AM WPD patrol were again looking for the male due to several similar previous reports against the same victim. He was located at the Marcs store on Detroit Rd. During the investigation, the man, a 48yo Parkersburg, WV resident, was taken into custody for violating the court order, harassing communications, and for felony menacing by stalking. Suspected methamphetamine was also seized from the male. He was later transferred to the county jail.
On 3/19/21 at approx. 7:15PM a representative of Enterprise Rent A Car came to WPD to report a stolen vehicle. The rental company had rented a Toyota Camry to a customer on 10/28/2020.The vehicle was supposed to be returned by 11/4/2020.The car was never returned and was still missing. Officers entered the vehicle into police databases. On 3/22/21 officers in Lakewood located the vehicle parked on Madison Ave. The car was recovered intact and was turned back over to Enterprise. Warrants were requested for the renter of the vehicle, a 36yo Lakewood male.
On 3/20/21 at about 3:45PM officers were summoned to the Double Tree Hotel on Clemens for a report from staff of an unwanted guest and drug dealing from a room. Staff led the officers to the problem room where 2 persons were located. During the investigation officers noted indicators of illicit drug use. The male, a 49yo Cleveland resident, fought with officers when they were attempting to detain him. A female, a 38yo who listed a Garfield Hts address, also attempted to interfere with the detention of the couple. Both were eventually arrested inside the hotel. The male was charged with Attempted aggravated robbery, assault on a police officer and felony drug abuse. The female was charged with obstructing official business, resisting, possession of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Methamphetamine and pills were located and taken as evidence. Both were later transferred to the Cuyahoga County Jail.
On 3/30/21 at approx. midnight, Bay Village PD ran across a disabled vehicle on the Clague Rd overpass at I90.Westlake officers responded and learned that the male with the car claimed that he had gotten into a dispute with the passengers of his vehicle including his 12 year old son. The son, another juvenile and an adult female were soon found walking in the area. They reported to the investigators that they had become uncomfortable riding from Dave and Busters with the driver because of his level of intoxication. At first the driver would not let them out which caused the dispute which became physical between the adults. They did not wish to press charges and officers stayed with them until they obtained a sober ride. The driver, a 34yo Cleveland resident, was field tested and arrested for OVI. He was also cited with driving with a license that had been suspended due to a prior OVI arrest. The driver had entered warrants for larceny and a traffic violation but the other agencies would not pick him up.
On 3/23/21 at about 12:30PM, an officer stopped a vehicle for traffic violations after it left the Super 8 Motel on Sperry. The officer noticed drug paraphernalia in plain view when talking to the operator. Investigation revealed that the 26yo female from Elyria was in possession of a loaded semi-automatic firearm as well as suspected methamphetamine and the aforementioned drug paraphernalia. She was arrested and transported to the Westlake Jail. Several felonies including carrying a concealed weapon, having weapons under disability (prior felony drug cases), possessing criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed.
On 3/24/21 at approx. 5PM officers learned from Pattons Towing that they had recently towed a vehicle from the parking lot of the Hampton Inn on Detroit due to it being on property for 2 months without moving. It was learned that the vehicle had been entered as stolen out of Lorain. The vehicle was in poor shape and had flat tires. Lorain PD confirmed that the car was still missing. The owner was contacted to pick up the vehicle.
On 3/24/21 at about 8:30PM an officer on patrol at The Double Tree Hotel on Clemens discovered that a vehicle parked in the lot was entered as being stolen from Cleveland. The car was not occupied. Cleveland PD confirmed that the car was still missing. It was towed from the scene and the owner was notified of the recovery.
On 3/25/21 at approx. 12:30AM an officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at Crocker and Detroit Rds. Upon initial contact with the male operator, the officer noted a handgun in plain view in the passenger compartment of the sedan. The driver, later identified as a 27yo Antioch, TN resident, complied with the officer’s instructions to keep his hands still and in view. The gun, found to be loaded, was secured as was the male without further incident .Investigation revealed edible and plant material marijuana along with an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Open Container and felony improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
