PARMA, OH - Parma Police have charged Matthew J. Ponomarenko, age 31, with one count of aggravated murder and he admitted to killing his son, Jax J. Ponomarenko, age 5, with a baseball bat. The father told Parma Police on a 911 call that "he was hearing voices". The murder took place at the family home at 4704 Russell Ave.on Thursday.
Ponomarenko's initial court appearance will be on Monday, March 29, 2021, in front of Judge Ken Spanagel in Parma Municipal Court at 11 a.m. The case is expected to be turned over to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office.
Neighbors have started a memorial for Jax at his home on Russell Ave. leaving stuffed animals. Details have not been released yet on his funeral.
