Thursday, March 25, Is Michael Stanley Day In Cleveland

(Cleveland) - Thursday, March 25, would have been local rock star Michael Stanley's 73rd birthday. The day has been officially proclaimed by Cleveland City Council as Michael Stanley Day,.

The official declaration will be made Thursday morning at 10:15 a.m. on the Rock Hall Plaza. Members of Stanley's family, members of his last band, The Resonators, and City Council President Kevin Kelley, will all be on hand for the presentation, which will be streamed live.

In addition, radio stations in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown, including Majic 105.7 and 106.5 The Lake, will honor Stanley by playing, simultaneously at 10:35 a.m., his iconic song "My Town." Why 10:35? It comes from the opening line of the Michael Stanley Band hit "In The Heartland." There will also be Michael Stanley music played in downtown Cleveland on the Rock Hall's Rock Boxes on East 9th Street.

There will also be exhibits at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame devoted to Michael Stanley. In addition, at 10:35 a.m., Line Level Music will stream two new songs that were recorded for Stanley's upcoming album, "Tough Room."

Michael Stanley died earlier this month after battling lung cancer. The Michael Stanley Band set attendance records at Blossom Music Center, the Richfield Coliseum, and The Front Row Theatre. He was also the afternoon drive host for 30 years on WNCX radio.
