Indians Drummer John Adams Will Miss Home Opener

(Cleveland) - There will be fans in the stands of Progressive Field for the Indians home opener against the Kansas City Royals on April 5, but one well-known fan won't be there. The seat where John Adams sits at the top of the bleachers, pounding on his rally drum, will be empty.

Adams told WTAM that he underwent a heart bypass operation over the winter, and he is also having thyroid problems. He spent most of the winter in the hospital, and in rehab. He just came home two weeks ago.

Adams says he is so tired and weak, that it would be impossible for him to make it to the home opener. He said he will undergo another heart procedure, and he hopes after that he will be able to regain enough strength to return to the ballpark later in the season.

This will be the first time since 1973 that Adams has not banged on his drum at an Indians home opener. He is asking for your prayers for his recovery.
