(Cleveland) - More Cavaliers fans will be able to attend games at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, thanks to the Cavs receiving a variance from the State of Ohio.
Originally, the state said, that due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 300 people could attend Cavs games. The state has now increased that to 1,944, which is 10% of the building's capacity.
In their request to the Ohio Department of Health, Cavs officials submitted a detailed plan to safely host fans during the pandemic. In her response, state Health Director Stephanie McCloud said, “I am approving this variance because of the Cavaliers’ extremely comprehensive and detailed activation plan, and particularly given the FieldHouse’s creation of increased space on the south side, increased concourse ceiling height (by three feet) and state-of-the-art HVAC system to address air quality,”
The Cavs had asked the state to increase capacity to 4,596, which is about 23% of capacity.
Fans will be able to sit in groups of no more than six, and each group must be at least six feet from others.
