(Cleveland) - Cuyahoga County has been dealing with numerous lawsuits related to deaths at the county jail, and it has cost taxpayers a lot of money.
According to cleveland.com, the county has paid out $1.35 million to settle just four suits related to the death of inmates in the jail. 27 suich suits have been filed since the middle of 2018. 23 suits are pending.
Deaths at the jail picked up after the county began the consolidation of city jails, bringing those inmates into the county jail. While revenue for the county increased as a result, the basic cost per inmate was cut.
