Cleveland State Posts 28th Straight Semester Above 3.0 GPA

Cleveland, OH - Cleveland State student-athletes posted their 28thstraight semester surpassing a 3.00 cumulative grade point average during the fall 2020 semester, while also setting a new department record for cumulative point average.

The 330+ student-athletes combined to notch a record cumulative GPA of 3.465, which tops the previous record of 3.37, set in the spring of 2020. It also marks the fifth consecutive term Cleveland State student-athletes combined for above a 3.30 cumulative GPA and seventh straight semester compiling a 3.20 cumulative GPA.

The Vikings recorded a 3.586 semester GPA, which is the second-highest semester GPA in Cleveland State history.

“Congratulations to all of our Viking student-athletes on another outstanding academic semester,” said Director of Athletics Scott Garrett. “Thank you to Faculty Athletics Representative Rob Kleidman, Ph D., all of our coaches and support staff, and our excellent academics staff including Tyler Merillat, Winnie Lane and Meghan Sanniti for their continued efforts in making sure our student-athletes had the support they needed to successfully navigate another pandemic-impacted semester.”

For the second time in school history, all 18 of Cleveland State’s varsity programs posted a term GPA of at least a 3.00, led by volleyball’s department-high 3.86 GPA. Women’s tennis (3.84), women’s soccer (3.78), men’s tennis (3.77) and women’s fencing (3.72) all posted GPA’s of 3.70 or better. The Vikings’ 18 programs each posted a 3.00 GPA, or better, for the first time in school history during spring 2020.

196 student-athletes were named to the Dean’s List, while 48 Vikings were named to the President’s List. To be named to the Dean’s List, students must have at least a 3.25 GPA with a minimum of 12 graded credit hours, whereas the President’s List requires minimums of a 3.90 GPA and 15 graded credits.

Additionally, 57 student-athletesthat logged at least twelve graded credit hours, or completed the final courses required for their degree,earned a perfect 4.0 GPA.
