Rep. Marcia Fudge Likely To Be HUD Secretary

(Washington) - Various reports say that Northeast Ohio US Representative Marcia Fudge (D, 11th District) will be nominated by Joe Biden as his Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Those reports are from Politico, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

Fudge had been lobbying to serve as Agriculture Secretary, given her service on the House Agriculture Committee, but the reports say Biden is ready to choose former Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack for that job.

Rep. Fudge has served the 11th District in Northeast Ohio since 2008, winning a special election after the death of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones. She served as Tubbs Jones' chief of staff, then went on to be elected in 1999 as Mayor of Warrensville Heights, a position she held until entering Congress.

Fudge's appointment would have to be approved by the U.S. Senate. If she does join the Biden cabinet, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine would have to call a special election to fill her seat in the House.
