Cleveland To Consider Limits On Food Delivery Charges

(Cleveland) - Cleveland City Council could vote Wednesday on an ordinance that would limit the fees charges to restaurants by delivery services to 15 percent of the total bill. Council president Kevin kelley says this is to keep the services, such as Grubhub and Ubereats from gouging local restaurants.

Ted Bowen of the Ohio Restaurant Association testified at a council committee hearing on Monday, and said this will help smaller restaurants stay in business.

City officials say that sometimes, restaurants were charged as much as 30 percent of the total bill for delivery.

The proposed ordinance would stay in effect as long as Ohio's emgency orders related to COVID-19 are in effect.
