Willoughby-Eastlake Lays Off Non-Teaching Employees

(Willoughby) - More than 200 non-teaching employees of the Willougbhy-Eastlake Board of Education were laid off at a special meeting Thursday night. The layoffs are all due to the pandemic, and the fact that all of the district's schools are totally on remote learning.

Superintendent Steve Thompson said that as many employees as possible were kept on, but there was not a need for these employees "regardless of how creative we can be."

The hope is to bring these employees back around January 19, but that is subject to change, depending on the COVID-19 situation.

Those who are laid off include custodians, lunchroom workers, and study hall monitors.
