(Cleveland) - It's official. Sokolowski's University Inn, one of Cleveland's most iconic restaurants, is up for sale.
The Sokolowski family has the property up for sale through Howard Hanna, with an asking price of $2.7 million.
A report on Tuesday said the home of Polish and American comfort food in Tremont would be closing permanently. They have been closed since the beginning of the pandemic. Owner Bernie Sokolowski said his health, as well as the value of the land where the restaurant sits, are contributing factors to a decision to close.
A statement given to Fox 8 on Wednesday said that the family had put the restaurant up for sale, but that if there's no buyer, they'll consider reopening.
Sokolowski's has been owned by the same family since 1923. Their cafeteria-style menu included things like Salisbury steak, chicken paprikash, stuffed cabbage, and pierogis. The walls are filled with celebrity photos from visitors, including President Bill Clinton.
