Cleveland Radio Pioneer Norman Wain Has Died

(Cleveland) - Norman Wain, a pioneer in Cleveland radio, died Saturday at age 92.

Wain, along with partners, bought WDOK AM and FM in the 1960s, and turned WDOK-AM into WIXY 1260, which became the biggest Top 40 radio station in Cleveland in the late 60s, beating out WKYC and WHK in the ratings. WIXY 1260 was also the sponsor of The Beatles last concert in Cleveland, the one at Cleveland Municipal Stadium in 1966.

Norman Wain got into the radio business after military service during the Korean War, working as a disc jockey and salesman before getting into station ownership.
