Suspects Arrested In Shooting At Lorain Police Cruiser

(Lorain) - Police have released the names of the two men arrested for allegedly firing a gun at a Lorain Police cruiser during a traffic stop on Tuesday.

Roque Velazquez, 47, and Luis Laboy, 23, were found by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, Lorain Police, and Macedonia Police, in Macedonia on Wednesday. They were arrested without incident.

Both are in the Lorain County Jail, and are charged with felonious assault. Lorain Police say the case will be forwarded to the county prosecutor for more charges.

Lorain Police say an officer pulled over a car near 28th and Seneca on Tuesday night for a routine traffic stop. The officer says someone in the stopped car fired shots at the police cruiser. The car then took off, and the officer, who was not hurt, eventually lost sight of the car. The empty car was found later parked outside a house.

During a Wednesday news conference, Lt. Dan Reinhardt said "it's a dangerous time for police, so when it happens like it here, bringing this national attention locally, it's very concerning."
