Overturned Boat Found In Mentor

(Mentor) - An overturned fishing boat washed ashore near Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor on Monday morning.

According to a statement from the city, a person walking along the beach found the boat shortly after 7 a.m. and called 911. Rescue crews arrived a few minutes later, and found the 20-foot boat, along with some debris.

Mentor Fire, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Ohio DNR, and Mentor Police all did an investigation. They determined that the boat had been in distress Sunday offshore of Euclid, about 15 miles away. The occupants of the boat were taken ashore by good Samaritans in another nearby boat. The boat was abandoned, and apparently overturned sometimes during the night, eventually washing ashore. None of the people aboard the boat were injured, and they were all accounted for.
