(Cleveland) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an accident on westbound I-480 at State Road that killed one person.
About 8:45 a.m. Thursday, a sign gantry over the freeway just before the State Road exit was hit by a dump truck that had its rear bed lifted. The gantry holds up signs marking the State and Ridge Road exits. The entire gantry fell onto the freeway, crushing a pickup truck.
Cleveland EMS has said a 65-year-old in the pickup was killed.
480 westbound at State was closed for the investigation, and the cleanup, including the removal of the sign. Traffic was backed up all the way to I-77.
