Two Cleveland Police Officers Disciplined

(Cleveland) - One Cleveland Police officer has effectively resigned because he was declared AWOL (Absent Without Leave), and a police sergeant has been disciplined for violation of departmental policies and procedures.

The city says that Patrolman John Hotz has been terminated from the department, effective August 6. According to his termination letter, Hotz had been on sick leave. He failed to return to work after being ordered to do so, after he had passed a Fitness for Duty examination. Patrolman Hotz had been asked to provide documentation as to why he couldn't work, and didn't do so. A hearing officer declared Hotz guilty of being AWOL.

Sergeant Christopher Graham has been suspended for 20 days without pay for violation of multiple police policies and procedures. According to his disciplinary letter, Graham was found to have not filed the proper paperwork for an outside job, and he was insubordinate to a superior officer.
