(Columbus) - A statewide mandate requiring the wearing of face masks goes into effect at 6 p.m.Thursday, July 23. Governor Mike DeWine announced the new order at a news conference on Wednesday.
The governor said in his order that masks will be required for most people over the age of 10. Exemptions include those with a medical condition or disability, or someone who communicates with the disabled. Also exempted are when you are exercising, when you are outdoors, unless you can't social distance, if you're eating or drinking, or speaking at a religious service.
Before the mandate, 60 percent of Ohioans were under a mask order, all in counties that were Level 3 on the state's system of keeping track of COVID-19 cases.
