Meet Cleveland's New Catholic Bishop

(Cleveland) - Pope Francis has named the Most Reverend Edward C. Malesic as the 12th Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Bishop Malesic, who is 59 years old, has been Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg, east of Pittsburgh, since 2015. He fills the void in leadership created in February, when Bishop Nelson J. Perez was elevated to be Archbishop of Philadelphia.

Bishop Malesic was born in Harrisburg and raised nearby. He entered the seminary in 1981, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1987. He served at a number of parishes in the Harrisburg Diocese until his appointment as Bishop of Greensburg.

The Cleveland Diocese has about 700,000 members, and covers Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Geauga, Summit, Medina, Ashland, and Wayne Counties.
