UH Rainbow Babies and Children's to Continue Summer Food Service Program

Cleveland - University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s announcing Friday its fourth year of participation in the Ohio Department of Education’s USDA Summer Food Service Program with eight distribution sites across Northeast Ohio.Any child is eligible to receive a complimentary meal through the program – there is no income qualification.

Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions on large gatherings, meals are served as grab-and-go bagged lunches. Free, nutritious meals are provided to all children ages 1-18 at the following locations, Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and noon. Note each UH location has a different program end date listed below:

  • UH Ahuja Medical Center (3999 Richmond Road, Beachwood) Aug. 18th
  • UH Bedford Medical Center (44 Blaine Avenue, Bedford) Aug. 21st
  • UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital (2101 Adelbert Road, Cleveland) Aug. 7th
  • UH Elyria Medical Center (630 East River Road, Elyria) Sept. 4th
  • UH Parma Medical Center (7007 Powers Blvd, Parma) Aug. 21st
  • UH Portage Medical Center (6847 Chestnut Street, Ravenna) Aug. 18th
  • UH Richmond Medical Center (27100 Chardon, Richmond Hts) Aug. 14th
  • UH Rainbow Center for Women & Children (5805 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland) Aug. 7th

“We were thrilled by the response from our staff, patients and community over the last few years, and are excited to continue the program into 2020," said Kathie Wesolowski, Director, Women’s and Children's Community Outreach, UH Rainbow. “With the economic environment we are in this year, we are certain there is more of a need for this service than ever before. We are excited to add the UH Rainbow Center for Women & Children to our list of sites providing meals for families in need.”

Meals are provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.

There will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA. 

Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. 

Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, found online here and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form.
