Cleveland - Amid the announced re-openings in Ohio Thursday, a major attraction in Cleveland is one of them.
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo announced plans to reopen to the public on Wednesday, June 17th, following new guidance from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
The Zoo first closed March 16th due to COVID-19 precautions and has remained closed for nearly three months in accordance with the state’s orders.
Upon reopening, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will continue to follow guidelines and best practices from the state and CDC to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will provide an update on safety precautions in place prior to reopening on June 17th.
“After nearly three months, we can’t wait to reopen Cleveland Metroparks Zoo to our community,” said Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Executive Director Chris Kuhar, PhD. “As we work diligently to reopen, safety will continue to be our number one priority to protect our employees, guests and all of the animals in our care.”
Since May 20th, guests have been able to drive through the Zoo from their vehicles for the first time since 1907 as part of a fundraising event. Cruise the Zoo presented by Dollar Bank will conclude Sunday, June 14th. Tickets are still available for this limited-time event.
“We want to thank the community for their overwhelming support over the past several months,” said Kuhar. “While we prepare to reopen, there are still a few opportunities left to experience the Zoo from your vehicle for the first time in over 100 years.”
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo memberships will be reactivated beginning June 17th. All memberships that were valid during the Zoo’s required closure will be extended automatically to make up for the time members were unable to visit.
