Campaign Underway To Help Make Up For Tourism Losses

(Cleveland) - The tourism and hospitality industries are among those that took a big hit during stay-at-home orders. That is why Destination Cleveland, the area's tourism agency, has created a program to get things going by getting us back into local restaurants and other businesses that depend a lot on out-of-towners for their financial support.

Destination Cleveland's Dave Gilbert says it's all about making us feel comfortable about going out.

The campaign, called "Undefeated," is meant to inspire Clevelanders and business owners to commit and act to advance the region as it reopens. The campaign has three phases: Responsibly Reopen and Commit (through June), Rediscover and Reconnect (starts in July), and Remind and Recover (August and beyond). They speak to re-engaging the public at the pace at which we feel comfortable, only when ready.

Part of the campaign involves a $700,000 commitment by Cuyahoga County of federal CARES Act money to allow for the production and distribution of so-called Clean Kits. Businesses that agree to use the kits to maintain standards for pandemic-style cleaning will be promoted by Destination Cleveland as a Clean Committed business.

Businesses can sign up starting June 3.
