West Side Homicide Suspect Caught

Cleveland - Some justice for a murder case over one year old.

Thursday afternoon, members of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested 41-year-old Andrew Barker. Barker was wanted by the Cleveland Division of Police for a homicide which occurred in April 2019.

Barker was originally charged with felonious assault when he shot into an apartment building in the area of Lake Ave and West 83rd Steet. 34-year-old Ivette Gonzales-Perez was shot in the neck through a window, her 14 year old daughter was injured from the shattered glass. Both were transported to MetroHealth for treatment.On April 7th, 2019 Gonzales-Perez died from her injuries.

Members of the task force had been searching for Barker since January 2020. After numerous interviews officers were able to track down his address on Cleveland’s east side, investigators located Barker outside of a retail store in the Cleveland Heights area. He was stopped in a vehicle and arrested without incident.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “This fugitive thought he could hide in plain sight from the police, but our investigators didn’t give up on finding him.He will now have to answer for the death of a young woman and the severe injuries to her daughter.”
