Two Dogs Die After Geauga County Kennel Fire

Troy Township - Two dogs have died after an in-home kennel in Geauga County caught fire early Saturday morning.

The Troy Township Fire Department says a garage where the kennel was kept burst into flames around 5:15 a.m.

Geauga Mama Dogs and Pups foster mom Dianne Schubeck saying the structure became entirely engulfed and two puppies did not make it out alive. The mother of those puppies tried to re-enter the building but suffered burns in the process. The mom is at a nearby clinic being treated and is expected to make a full recovery.

A silver lining, another pregnant dog gave birth to ten healthy puppies after being rescued from the fire.

The rescue organization has foster families willing to take in pregnant dogs and their puppies for safety and eventual adoption. Last year, with the help of volunteers and families, they saved more than 1,000 dogs.

Schubeck says she plans to rebuild the facility as soon as possible.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
