Westlake Police Blotter: Toothbrush Stab Wound

On 9/28/19 at approx 1:30AM officers were alerted to driver passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped at the exit ramp from I90W/B to Clague Rd.Along with the sleeping driver, officers observed that there was an open beer in the operator’s cup holder.After waking the 27yo North Olmsted resident, the police officer asked for a driver’s license.The groggy driver tried to hand over his cell phone.Not surprisingly the male failed field sobriety testing and was arrested for OVI.His vehicle was towed.At the WPD jail the male tested 2 times the legal limit.He was charged with possession of an open container as well as OVI and prohibited breath alcohol content.

On 9/29/19 at about 11:20AM an officer checked on a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of The Super 8 Motel on Sperry Rd.While speaking with the male associated with the vehicle at his hotel room, officers noted evidence of suspected drug use. Investigation revealed that the male, a 41yo from Berea, was in possession of methamphetamine.Evidence, including rolled dollar bills and lines of powder were recovered.The male was arrested and charged with felony possession of meth.

On 9/30/19 at approx. 1AM WPD received a call from UH St. John Medical Center reporting that they were treating a male in the ER with a stab wound.The male had told medical personnel that he had fallen on a toothbrush in the shower.This explanation did not match the evidence found.Officers learned that the male had been in an altercation with another male at apartments on Detroit Rd in Westlake.The victim was stabbed with a knife during the fight.Investigators collected evidence and developed a suspect who turned out to be the victim’s roommate.Later that day the suspect voluntarily came to the WPD for an interview. The 24yo Westlake resident was taken into custody and charged with felonious assault.The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

On 10/1/19 at approx 10am officers learned that a male staying at the Red Roof Inn on Clemens had an active warrant from WPD for possession of drug paraphernalia.Officers knocked on his hotel door and took him into custody without incident.While arresting the 50yo male who listed himself as homeless, a female was observed in the room along with evidence of drug use.The female appeared to be in medical distress – most likely due to drug use.She was sent to the hospital in an ambulance.Officers recovered suspected methamphetamine, heroin, pills and paraphernalia from the room.The male was charged with felony possession of drugs.A felony warrant for possession of heroin is currently outstanding for the 55yo female who’s last known address listed in North Olmsted.
