Westlake, OH - On 5/24/19 at approx. 11:30AM a citizen reported being the victim of a scam.The complainant was in the process of shopping for houses with a realtor.They received an email – purportedly from the real estate agent – asking for $1000 earnest money for a property.The victim sent the money as instructed and only later learned that the email was a fake.The scammer used an email address that looked official but apparently is based in Germany.A fraud report was generated.
On 5/25/19 at approx. 11PM a female on Dover Center called to report that her brother “was attacking” her after they argued about missing marijuana.The 20 yo brother left the house before officers arrived but was found walking in the area.He ran from the officers and hid in a backyard.Once the WPD K9 was on scene though, the male gave up.He was taken into custody without further incident.The Westlake resident was charged with domestic violence and a license violation due to a fake ID that was located on his person.
On 5/26/19 at about 5:50PM a motorist reported that her vehicle had been struck by a Ford F-150 in the parking lot of Marc’s on Detroit Rd.The driver of the Ford told the other driver that they were “ruining” his life when he realized she was calling the police.The Ford fled the area but not before the victim noted the license plate.Officers tracked the Ford and the male driver to his residence on Cedarwood.The male, who was still carrying an open vodka bottle in his back pocket, was found walking from his vehicle.He showed signs of intoxication and was field tested then arrested for OVI.His Ford was impounded and towed from the scene.On station the male refused a breath test.He was charged with OVI, hitskip and possession of marijuana for a bag of the green leafy material that was found in the vehicle.
On 5/27/19 at approx. 4PM officers responded to a parking lot at the corner of Center Ridge and Bradley for a reported theft.Someone had stolen the tires and rims off of a Dodge Durango.A report was taken and investigators are following up with evidence left on scene.
On 5/29/19 at about 5PM several callers reported a serious crash at the corner of Columbia and Hilliard.Officers responded to find that after 2 vehicles collided, one of them swerved onto the tree lawn on Columbia and struck a mailbox and completely severed a utility pole.One driver was injured and was transported to the hospital with non-left threatening injuries.The roadway was closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the debris and dealt with the pole and power lines.
On 5/29/19 at approx. 7pm an officer observed an occupied vehicle at the Red Roof Inn on Clemens.He learned that there was an active Temporary Protection Order protecting the female driver and her children from a male.Investigation revealed that the suspect male was also at the hotel.The 48yo from Newton, NC was taken into custody without incident for the TPO violation.
On 5/30 officers stopped a vehicle which had left the Super 8 on Sperry.It was learned that the male associated with the car had active warrants and a suspended driver’s license.Evidence of drug use was observed in the vehicle.Several methamphetamine pipes and hypodermic needles were located along with a small amount of suspected unused meth.Both occupants were arrested.The driver, a 33yo from Columbus, was charged with driving under suspension and attempted possession of drugs.The passenger, a 36yo from North Olmsted, was charged with attempted possession of drugs.
