(Cleveland) - A Summit County teenager has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.
Sage Smerk was 18-years-old at the time of the incident last fall. He was hired to be the child's babysitter.
In a plea deal for a reduced sentenced, Smerk pleaded 'guilty' to charges of attempted rape, felonious assault, and 'failure to comply,' in relation to him refusing to pull over when his vehicle was spotted by police. When Smerk, a Uniontown native, has served his prison sentence, he will be regarded as a Tier III sex offender. He'll be required to register with local law enforcement every 90 days for the remainder of his life.
