Independence Sunoco Killing Suspect Arrested

(Cleveland ) - Police in Independence have spent nearly a week trying to find the driver who punched and killed an 83-year-old man at The Rock: John 3:16 Sunoco station on Rockside Road.

The elderly victim, Gary Powers, is seen on security video from the gas station being punched in the head by the much younger male suspect, and then hitting his head again on the concrete as he falls to the ground. He was found dead on scene a short time later by Independence police, who had been called to break up a fight at the Denny's restaurant located just up a small incline from the gas station and its lot.

Police believe the fatal assault was the result of a road rage incident which happened shortly before the exchange captured on the Sunoco station's parking lot. The gas station was closed at the time.

Independence police are holding a press conference Friday afternoon to officially identify their suspect, and relate the charges against him. In the meantime, other sources are identifying the suspect as Cronie Lloyd, a resident of Cleveland.
