Luckily no one was inside when the fire started.  Westlake Fire extinguished the flames and are investigating the cause.  Columbia Rd was closed for about an hour during the incident.

On 1/19/19 at approx. 5PM officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Sperry Dr in front of the Hooley House.  As officers were investigating the collision and paramedics were attending to injured persons, it was apparent that one of the drivers showed signs of intoxication.  In fact, the male asked the officer who he was, apparently not recognizing the police uniform and cruisers with flashing red and blue lights.  The driver did not believe that he had been in a crash while pulling out of the bar and was belligerent with the paramedics when they were trying to attend to his injuries.  He later refused an alcohol test.  The 60yo from Rocky River was transported to the hospital and cited with OVI and failure to yield.  His license was suspended.  2 persons from the struck vehicle, one of which was only 11 years old, were taken to the hospital as well.  None appeared to have life threatening injuries.

On 1/21/19 at approx. 3Pm officers responded to the YMCA on Columbia Rd for a reported theft from a locker.  A patron reported that he had secured his wallet in a locker when he utilized the facility but returned to find it missing.  Investigators learned that a stolen credit card had been used at a nearby store.  They are following up to attempt to locate surveillance footage.

On 1/23/19 at approx. 4AM a ride share driver called WPD to report that one of his fares, whom he had picked up at the Hyatt Hotel at Crocker Park, had made comments to him that she had “Robbed the sh$$ out of somebody.”  Concerned, he reported the description and destination of the female to the police.  The driver also noted that the suspicious female had a bag full of items including a laptop computer.  Later in the day, a male at the hotel reported that he was missing several items from his hotel room.   Investigators tracked down the 22yo female from Lakewood and arrested her on 1/25.  Charges are pending.

On 1/24/19 at about 4pm WPD received a call from a male who requested police to help him with a male in the complainant’s compartment that refused to leave.  When the officers arrived the complainant and “intruder” were in the parking lot of the apartments on Center Ridge at Columbia Rds.  The complainant appeared highly intoxicated but the officers fully investigated his complaint to learn that the “intruder” actually lived in the same apartment and produced paperwork to prove it.  When the complainant could not or would not follow simple instructions including staying away from the rear doors of the police cruiser where the WPD K9 was watching the scene, the 36yo Westlake resident was taken into custody for disorderly conduct while intoxicated.  At the WPD jail the male tested almost 4 times the legal limit (if he was driving).  He was allowed to sober up and was released with a court date.
