Ohio medical marijuana shops open for business

The Forest Sandusky

(Sandusky) - Four Ohio medical marijuana dispensaries are opening their doors to patients today, some 33 months after state lawmakers legalized the medication.

Among the dispensaries is The Forest Sandusky on Tiffin Avenue. CEO Eric Vaughan says patients who suffer from about 20 pre-existing conditions...from Alzheimers to cancer to HIV are now able to purchase medical marijuana with a prescription from a certified doctor.

Vaughn tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, the dispensary is conducting business 7 days a week, from 7am to 9pm.

The Forest is being run by 12 employees. Patients are expected to spend about $100 per visit, but marketing director Kara Lambert expects prices to drop dramatically as production increases.

For sale are medical marijuana flowers to start, and will then be followed in a few weeks by vapors, patches, edibles, oils and other substances that are now legal statewide.

Thousands of people have already registered for medical marijuana in Ohio, with a total of 56 dispensaries expected to eventually begin operations.
