Westlake Police Blotter: January 4th

Westlake - 

On 12/29/18 at approx. 11:30pm officers responded to a reported robbery which had occurred at the Regal Cinema at Crocker Park.  The victim reported that he was held up at knife point while inside the theater.  After taking a small amount of cash the suspect fled the scene.  There were no reported injuries.  Almost 2 hours later the described suspect was located in the area.  He was taken into custody without further incident.  The suspect admitted that he smokes a lot of “weed” and “does” crack cocaine and that contributed to the incident.  The 27yo male from Cleveland Hts is being held in the Westlake Jail on Aggravated Robbery charges.

On 12/30/18 at approx. 11am officers responded to a report of a male overdosing in a room at the Towne Place Suites on Sperry Rd.  Resuscitation attempts were unfortunately unsuccessful and the 31yo male from Fairview Park was pronounced deceased.  A witness was interviewed and the Westlake PD Detective Bureau is working with the County Coroner to investigate the death.  Heroin and crack cocaine use are suspected contributing factors.

Between 12/31 and 1/1/19, officers took 3 separate reports of thefts from cars that had been parked in driveways on Southwood Dr.  All of the vehicles had been left unlocked.  It appears that all of the thefts had occurred overnight on 12/30.  Missing items include a purse and sunglasses.  There are no suspects at this time.

On 1/1/19 at approx. 6:50PM officers responded to a burglar alarm at D’Italia on Detroit Rd.  When they arrived they found that the restaurant had been broken into through a window.  Unfortunately, the perpetrators were already gone.  Officers processed the scene and took a break and enter report.

On 1/2/19 at approx. 12 noon, officer responded to Starz Ballroom on Sperry for a reported break-in.  Officers found no suspects inside but did locate the point of entry which was a broken rear window.  The owner indicated that the B+E had occurred over the long weekend.  Missing items included a small amount of cash.  Investigators are following up with surveillance cameras in the area.
