Kent - A Brimfield man is accused of killing his wife .

On Thursday at 8:40pm the Brimfield Police Department was contacted by the Portage County Sheriff’s Office to conduct a welfare check at 2464 Hazelnut Drive in Brimfield for a resident of that address, identified as 33-year-old Lacie Cunningham. Her husband, 31-year-old Erik Cunningham, had come to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and reportedly made statements to staff that caused some concern for her welfare.

Upon officers’ arrival, they located a female, later identified as Lacie Cunningham, deceased in the garage of the residence from an apparent gunshot wound. No one else was present at the residence at that time.

The Portage County Coroner’s Office, the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office, and Crime Scene Unit Investigators with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were contacted and responded to the scene, and a search warrant was executed for the residence.

Erik Cunningham was taken into custody at the Portage County Sheriff’s Office without incident, and has been charged with one count of Murder. Cunningham is expected to be arraigned on that charge today in Ravenna Municipal Court. An additional investigation is ongoing at this time.
