(Cleveland) - An inmate is in critical condition after a suicide attempt at the Cuyahoga County Jail.
The 27 year old man is currently on life support at MetroHealth Medical Center. He is identified as Brenden Kiekisz, who arrived at the jail on Christmas Day, after being charged with suspicion of violating the terms of drug intervention program imposed by a court for fentanyl and heroin possession.
Jail leaders have come under fire recently for not improving conditions at the jail.
Earlier this month at a public hearing, county council members questioned Sheriff Gerald Pinkney about jail operations and demanded reforms.
A report by U.S. Marshals criticized the jail operators for deplorable conditions. The FBI is conducting a civil rights investigation of the jail.
This latest incident comes as 6 inmates have died at the jail this year, three taking their own lives. A 7th death occurred at a suburban jail run by Cuyahoga County.
