(Erie County)-     A fisherman who killed his wife on the waters of Lake Erie will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

49-year old  Christopher S. Leclair was all but guaranteed to receive a life sentence after a jury in October convicted him of first-degree murder in the death of his wife, 51-year-old Karen Leclair.

Erie County  Judge John J. Trucilla issued the mandatory sentence Tuesday and added three years and nine months to 17 years for charges including abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence and false reports.

“There was almost a recognizable gasp in this community when this crime was committed,” Trucilla said. “The depravity and depths that you went to calculate this murder are unlike any this court has ever seen.”

Christopher Leclair, of Elk Creek Township, will never be eligible for parole under the sentence.
