(Cleveland) - Sheriff Clifford Pinkney and other officials appeared before Cuyahoga County Council.
Lawmakers questioned them about the operation of the county jail.
Councilman Dan Brady wanted to know why lawmakers were not informed about the many problems there.
In a scathing report, the U.S. Marshal's Service described the county jail as 'unsatisfactory and at risk.' Sheriff Pinkney told council, he and his staffers are still analyzing the data.
Among other findings, the Marshals claim the jail is overcrowded, with dangerously low staffing levels, leading to seven recent deaths and at least 55 suicide attempts over the past 12 months.
The FBI is conducting a civil rights investigation of the jail.
