Suspect arraigned in Mayfield Hts. double murder

(Cuyahoga County) - The 27 year old man charged with two murders on Longwood Drive in Mayfield Heights has been arraigned. 

It was the first of many court appearances for Dominique Swopes, this time before Lyndhurst Municipal Judge Dominic Coletta who who set his bond at $5-million. 

Swopes is charged with killings of his neighbors, Rebecca Pletnewski, and her 8 year old daughter Olivia Schneider. Their deaths have been ruled homicides. 

The mother and daughter who were found dead inside their burning Mayfield Heights home last week were laid to rest on Monday.  

Police say the 41 year old Pletnewski was stabbed to death and her daughter died of smoke inhalation from the blaze.

Swopes is charged with attacking Pletnewski, and setting a fire that killed Olivia.

Investigators claim the tragedy happened after Swopes made several unwanted relationship overtures toward his neighbor.
