Joe Biden, Robert De Niro Latest Targets to Receive Explosive Devices

three more suspicious packages discovered

Police intercepted three more suspicious packages on Thursday, one addressed to actor-director Robert De Niro and two addressed to former Vice President Joe Biden. Investigators say the crude pipe bombs resemble the same ones discovered yesterday sent to Democratic officials and other critics of President Donald Trump.

Authorities say the package addressed to De Niro arrived on Wednesday to the building's general mailing room. A retired police officer who worked there discovered the package, but didn't think anything about it and left it in his office CNN reported. A New York police bomb squad removed the package around 7 a.m.

The FBI said the two packages addressed to Biden were found at a Delaware mail facility

So far, none of the bombs have detonated and no one has been hurt in New York, Washington D.C. Florida, Los Angeles and Delaware where authorities discovered the devices.

In a tweet issued Thursday morning, Trump appeared to place blame for the anonymous bombing campaign on anger in society generated by the media.

"A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News," Trump wrote in a morning Tweet. "It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!"

At least 10 suspicious packages were sent to at least eight targets so far:

  • Billionaire investor and Democratic Donor George Soros
  • Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
  • Former President Barack Obama
  • Former CIA Director John Brennan (sent to CNN's offices)
  • Former Attorney General Eric Holder (found at Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz's office in Florida)
  • (2) Rep. Maxine Waters (One package sent to her office in Washington D.C. and another was found at a postal facility in Los Angeles)
  • Actor-Director Robert De Niro
  • (2) Joe Biden (two packages were discovered at a Wilmington, Delaware postal facility).

Authorities described the devices as being made out of PVC pipe covered in black tape and measuring about six inches long, each with a small battery and packed with powder and broken glass.

The first pipe bomb was discovered at the suburban New York home of billionaire George Soros on Monday. The U.S. Secret Service intercepted a bomb addressed to Clinton at her Chappaqua, New York home that she lives in with former President Bill Clinton and another addressed to Obama at his Washington D.C. home.

A third bomb was removed by the New York Police bomb squad from the New York CNN bureau after it was discovered in the mailroom. The package sent to CNN at the Time Warner Building was addressed to Brennan, who regularly appears on television criticizing Trump.

Authorities said yet another bomb addressed to Holder ended up at Schultz's office in Sunrise, Florida because it was addressed in correctly and the congresswoman's office address was listed on the return label.

Two bombs were sent to Rep. Maxine Waters, one at her Washington D.C. office and another was discovered at a mail facility in Los Angeles. Waters, whom the president has decried as a "low-IQ individual" has frequently clashed with Trump over his policies.

The devices have been sent to an FBI lab in Virginia where they will be studied by forensic experts. Officials have not provided a suspect or motive for the anonymous bombing campaign.
