New Bill Would Increase Teen Permit-Holding Time

(COLUMBUS) - Sponsors of an Ohio bill would increase the amount of time new drivers would be required to hold Probationary Permits.

To start this year’s Teen Driver Safety Week, Circleville Republican Gary Scherer and Oregon, Ohio Democrat Michael Sheehy want to see the bill become law by year's end.

The PTA and AAA are also pushing for the House’s approval after Novembers election.

The bill would require drivers under 18 to hold an instruction permit for one year instead of six months.

They would also be prohibited from driving between 9 p.m. & 6 a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
