MetroHealth transformation moving forward

(Independence) - MetroHealth is moving forward with its $946-million transformation, to expand and upgrade their campus.

President Dr. Akram Boutros says its time to remake the medical center, and the surrounding neighborhood.

The proposal includes an 11 story, 270 bed, hospital in a park, that will tower over West 25th Street, it's scheduled to be completed in 2022.

Also plannned is new technology, community programs, and expanded green space.

Appearing on WTAM's Wills & Snyder Show, Boutros says they determined it was time to replace the medical center's aging infrastructure. He explains that the campus barely survived the 2014 Polar Vortex, during the storm two evacuations almost occurred.

The project is being financed by the sale of hospital-revenue bonds.
