First court appearance for Matthew Nicholson

(Cuyahoga County) - Matthew Nicholson appeared before Garfield Heights Municipal Judge Deborah Nicastro thru a video link from the city jail at today's bond hearing.

Defense attorney Michael Goldberg asked the Judge Nicastro to take into consideration Nicholson's college degree and lack of criminal record.

Nicastro quickly set Nicholson's bail at a half million dollars, and turned his double murder case over to Cuyahoga County. He's to appear in Common Pleas Court on Monday morning.

Police say Nicholson shot and killed his girlfriend's children during an argument at their home in the 4800 block of E. 86th Street.

The situation evolved into an hours-long standoff when police arrived at the scene. Nicholson later surrendered wearing a bullet proof vest.
