PORTAGE COUNTY - Armed with a search warrant, law enforcement combed through the Portage County farm of 63-year-old Glenn Shoemaker, hoping for answers in the disappearance of both of his parents.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI) says the cold case goes back to the early 1994, when then 71-year-old Melvin Shoemaker was first reported missing.
The Geauga County Prosecutor's Office confirmed to Channel 3 News it's missing person search is centered squarely on the dilapidated, overgrown home of it's current owner, Melvin's son Glenn.
Neighbor Joe Clay told Channel 3, he believes the search is for both Melvin and wife Florence Shoemaker, who reportedly went missing 7 years after her husband.
Clay says authorities borrowed some of his equipment to dig through what he called a "pile of lime in the back of the property that would have bothered the noses of police canines" on the scene.
Investigators have not officially named a suspect in the disappearance of either of the elder Shoemakers, for lack of evidence, but will not rule out foul play.
