(Cleveland, OH) -- Mike Clevinger allowed one run and struck out 10 over six innings as the Indians beat the Royals 9-3 in Cleveland. Francisco Lindor belted his 31st home run to leadoff the game, while Yandy Diaz contributed three hits, including a solo shot and an RBI triple as the Indians snapped a three-game skid.
Danny Duffy took the loss, allowing three runs in the first inning before departing with a left shoulder impingement. He is likely finished for the season.
Alex Gordon homered for Kansas City, which had its six-game winning streak halted.
The Indians win, and a loss by the Twins, brings Cleveland's Magic Number to clinch the Central Division down to 10.
The rubber game of the series with the Royals will be Wednesday afternoon. Corey Kluber goes for his 18th win of the season. Brad Keller will start for the Royals. Hear the game at 1:10 p.m. on WTAM 1100 and ALT 99.1.
