(Boston, MA) -- Greg Allen snapped a 3-all tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Indians hung on to edge the Red Sox 5-4 at Fenway Park. Michael Brantley's two-run shot in the sixth tied the game at three for Cleveland, which has won eight of its last nine games.
Melky Cabrera also homered in support of Corey Kluber's 16th win. Cody Allen notched his 25th save.
Rick Porcello couldn't protect an early 3-0 lead and took the loss for Boston. Xander Bogaerts drove in three runs for the Red Sox.
Game two of the four-game series at Fenway Park is Tuesday night, with Shane Bieber starting for the Indians, and Nathan Eovaldi for Boston. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. on WTAM 1100 and 100.7 WMMS.
