(CLEVELAND) Could a basketball superstar be the next U.S. Secretary of Education? A new petition is calling on Education Secretary Betsy DeVos's firing and replacing her with LeBron James.
The Care2 petition has more than 8,200 supporters.
The petition's claims LeBron "cares about America's youth and understands the power of public education in helping children meet their true potential" while calling DeVos a "a scandal-ridden Republican donor who shows an inexcusable dislike for public education, wants to gut protections for women and minorities, and has advocated for teachers to be armed in schools."
James has received praise as a community advocate after opening his I Promise School in Akron, a public elementary school that will serve more than 200 at-risk children and families in Northeast Ohio.
