Grand Marshals Named For Lakewood Parade

Lakewood - Mayor Mike Summers today announced that Chas and Gordon Geiger will serve as the grand marshals for the city’s annual Fourth of July parade.

The parade is scheduled to step off on Lake Avenue at Kenneth Drive at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, and conclude at Lakewood Park.

Chas Geiger, a lifelong Lakewood resident, has been president and CEO of Geiger’s Clothing & Sports since 1974. He is actively involved in a number of Lakewood organizations and recognized for his civic leadership and community contributions. He served on the Lakewood Board of Education for twenty three years, including five terms as president, and was past treasurer and founding trustee of the Lakewood Public Schools Alumni Foundation. He is the current chair of the Three Arches Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, Geiger has served and supported the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood, Downtown Lakewood Business Alliance, Beck Center for the Arts, LakewoodAlive, former Lakewood Hospital Foundation, Lakewood Planning Commission and the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce where he was named Businessperson of the Year. Geiger has also served on the First Federal Lakewood board of directors since 1999 and was elected board chair in 2016.

Gordon Geiger is also a lifelong Lakewood resident and Executive Vice-President and co-owner of Geiger’s Clothing and Sports. A 1975 graduate of Lakewood High School, Gordon attended Wittenberg University and graduated with a B.A. in marketing/business. Gordon is a member of the Lakewood/Rocky River Rotary Club, the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Alliance. He is Charter President of the Lakewood/Rocky River Sunrise Rotary Club and the President of the Lakewood/Rocky River Sunrise Rotary Foundation. He is also the Director of the National Snow Sports Retailers Association and is Chairman of the Sports Specialists LTD, a national buying consortium specializing in winter and outdoor sports.

Joining in the parade will be musical favorites, the Lakewood High School Ranger Marching Band, St. Edward High School Marching Band, the Lochaber Pipe Band and Red Hackle Pipe Band.

After the parade, festivities will continue in Lakewood Park with games, food, activities and information provided by several of Lakewood’s community organizations. At 7:00 p.m., the Lakewood Project, Lakewood High School’s Youth Rock Orchestra, will perform at the Bandstand at Lakewood Park.

The Fourth of July will conclude following Lakewood’s annual fireworks extravaganza, set to begin at approximately 9:45 p.m.
