(Lake County) - Mentor went silent tonight to honor a police officer who died in the line-of-duty last weekend.
The mentor police department hosted a moment of silence for Mathew Mazany who was killed in a hit-skip. The ceremony took place at 6:50 this evening at the Mentor Civic Amphitheater.
Donations can be given to Mazany's family via GoFundeMe.
The man accused of killing the officer is the son of a firefighter who responded to the emergency.
Investigators report say Dennis Anthony convinced stepson Brian Anthony to surrender, hours after he helped treat Mazany along State Route 2 on Sunday.
Brian Anthony also had a prior connection with Mazany when he was cited for a traffic violation in 2012.
