Devontae Nettles & others arrested shooting death

(Cleveland) - Mayor Frank Jackson and Police Chief Calvin Williams today announced additional updates in the shooting death of 9-year-old Saniyah Nicholson. On Wednesday, June 20, 2018, Saniyah was seated in her mother’s vehicle near 4008 Lee Rd. with her adult sister while her mother ran errands. Gunfire erupted outside with two groups of young males firing at one another across the roadway. Saniyah was shot in the head and later died as a result of her injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred between two groups of young males. Two males on foot exchanged gunfire with two males in a vehicle. Both of the occupants of the vehicle, a 19-year-old male named Devontae Nettles and a 17-year-old male have been arrested. 

One of the males on foot, a 17-year-old male was arrested and police are working with prosecutors to obtain a warrant for the second male on foot who is 16 years old. At this time there is no known gang affiliation. This case remains in the early stages and police continue to investigate as to if anyone else was involved.
